Hello MYC Members:
We hope everyone had a wonderful Summer. As we look forward to the start of the MYC's 2023/24 season, we wanted to provide you with a brief Club update.
Per prior MYC updates, your Officers have been looking at ways to both reduce Club operating expenses and improve the experience of Club interactions. including maintenance of accurate member contact information; event registration; dues and event payments; a Club photo gallery, etc.
The lynchpin of meeting these objectives will be our new MYC website. Fleet Captain Johnson has spearheaded the website development effort in collaboration with Rear Commodore/Treasurer Neff, Rear Commodore /Secretary Harsh and Rear Commodore Berry. While it has been an arduous task, they have persevered throughout the Summer. The website is now in the beta test phase and close to being fully operational. Once operational, Fleet Captain Johnson will distribute to the membership a short website instruction guide for its registration and use.
In the meantime, Rear Commodore/ Treasurer Neff will be emailing dues statements shortly after October 1. The email will provide instructions for paying dues by credit card.
Our first Club event will be the annual Clambake on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 6:00 pm at the St Andrews Club. Event invitations will be emailed out to MYC members in early October. Please feel free to invite guests to this event.
We are returning to the Club’s historical process for the admission of new members which is very straightforward:
1) The MYC member/sponsor will invite the prospective new member to one or more MYC events and ensure that the candidate is introduced to the Club officers:
2) Assuming preliminary approval of membership by the officers, the sponsor will ask the candidate to complete a numbered application;
3) The completed application will then be reviewed by the officers;
4) If approved, the new member will receive a written MYC welcome from the Commodore, and
5) The Treasurer will send the new member an invoice in the amount of $1150.00 ($750.00 initiation fee plus $400.00 annual dues).
Next year's Annual Meeting will take place at Key Largo Anglers Club from Tuesday, May 7 to Saturday, May 11, 2024. This extended period responds to member requests to come early and stay longer around the meeting to take advantage of golf, fishing, and other activities (details to follow). As accommodations are always tight, we will be reaching out to the membership later this year to determine who will be attending. Then, RC/Treasurer Neff and I will be working with the folks at Key Largo Anglers Club and Ocean Reef to contract for a block of rooms.
MYC is off to the Greek Isles on September 7 2024. Alice Meiners advises there is still room on the ship. if you would like to join us, please reach out to Alice.
Alice did a great job arranging our cruise on the Snake and Columbia Rivers in late July. We had a fabulous trip along the route that Lewis and Clarke followed with some marvelous side excursions, including a day-long jet boat ride up the Snake River. The scenery was spectacular along the entire cruise route and we all agreed that it was a trip we would not have wanted to miss. A picture taken on our last cruise day is below
